Truth and Lies: An Allegory

Once there were two men, Truth and Lies. They both professed love for a woman named Wisdom and both asked for her hand in marriage. Lies said to Wisdom. “You are the most desirable woman in the world. You can have anyone your heart desires. Yet only I can give you all the earth’s treasures […]

Madeleine’s Cat

Madeleine Thornburton was always considered odd. Children in her school said, “She’s a creep. Stay away from her or something bad will happen to you!” The teachers agreed. Even they spent only the time necessary with her — nothing more; nothing less. “It’s not her fault,” her mother, Emma, would say. On this day, Principal […]

Scotland’s Overtoun Bridge: A Suicide Bridge for Dogs?

Scotland’s Overtoun Bridge: A Suicide Bridge for Dogs? Overtoun Bridge has been dubbed ‘The Dog Suicide Bridge by some. It is an innocuous looking structure. One that seems like many in Europe. Local researchers estimate more than 300 dogs have sailed off the Overtoun bridge; tabloid reports say it’s 600. At least 50 dogs are […]

The Tale of Grady Dellaneaux

Grady Dellaneaux strode up the pebbled walk leading to his half million-dollar home. He pulled his coat collar close around his neck, trying in vain to protect himself against the frigid mist carried in on a dense fog. “Stupid weather!” he exclaimed. The weather wasn’t what ate at Grady. In fact, he liked bad weather. […]

Designing Book Covers: An Author’s Perspective

When we developed the book cover for Ravens Cove, I hoped to capture the readers’ curiosity and interest, in addition to instilling a sense of foreboding and/or danger. After all, it is a supernatural thriller, and it is creepy. Haha.

On Coincidences

There is one thing to be said for coincidences. There aren’t any. Before you think I’m crazy or just ‘narrow minded’ consider the following story of how I became a published author.

Mary Ann A Bio

Mary Ann Poll, America’s Lady of Supernatural Thrillers, is the award-winning author of the Ravens Cove series. Born in Texas and shaped by its wide skies and stubborn spirit, Mary Ann called Alaska home for over forty years — and though her boots are back on Texas soil, her heart never left the Last Frontier. That love for both lands breathes through every page — from the sun-baked spirit of Texas to the eerie perpetual light of the Alaskan solstice and the rich traditions of Alaska’s Indigenous peoples.

Her love for a spine-tingling story and her love for Christ come together in her writing. Mary Ann’s own spiritual journey — from a lifelong fascination with the supernatural to a deep and abiding faith — gives her novels their distinctive voice: suspenseful, grounded in real spiritual stakes, and rooted in hope.

When she’s not writing, Mary Ann enjoys gardening, swimming, and time with her beloved family and pets — who have a habit of finding their way into her stories.
